Every year students kept Garden Journals to document their activities and experiences at the farm. These are some of their stories. |

I went to UBC Farm. I had a farm group named Flower Power. Our farm friend was L. and she told us some new words and facts about the farm. We get to harvest things that we can eat and put in the plastic bags. Then we collected seeds and I knew that sunflowers have a lot of seeds so, I collected sunflower seeds. The hardest job was that we had to clean up the bed! |

It was a nice day and it was a day that we go to UBC Farm! I was so excited when I arrived at UBC Farm. We met Flower Power’s farm friend. After we talked about something about garden, we started our garden work. It was time to hunt for wire worms and cut worms but if we saw earthworms we have to leave it in the bed because it’s good for the soil. Flower Power found a lot of wire worms and a few earth worms but we didn’t find cut worms. After we found many wire worms we fed that to the chickens. We put some worms and insects in the magnifying boxes. Now, it was time to mulch and cover the bed with rye and hairy vetch to keep the bed safe during the winter. We had to find leaves for mulching and the maple leaves are best leaves. For cover crop, we got some seeds of rye and hairy vetch and rye looked like pointy white seeds and hairy vetch looked like black and round seeds. Then, we went to the greenhouse and drew some pictures about the things that were in the magnifying boxes. At last, it was time to say, “bye”, I was a little sad but it had been a fun time. |

On February 1 st, our class went to UBC Farm. We had a little talk about rocks and what we’re going to do. When we came to our bed, there were some leaves, ryes, and hairy vetch. We cleaned the bed and catched some wire worms. Flower Power is a good wire worm catcher. Then we left our bed to get some potatoes, (one for each person) we found some sticks and put the sticks through potatoes. We also fed chickens. Flower Power cleaned the tools that we used and made a chart for what are we going to plant also, an when are we going to plant it and where. At last our class came back to school and it was a good morning. |

Today, my class is going to UBC Farm. I wasn’t so excited because it was rainy. Anyway, I went to the farm. It was really muddy. We went to the greenhouse and met up with my group. I thought it will going to be a busy day. After we got raincoats, we went to our garden bed and check the wire worm traps. There were a lot of wire worms out we just left it there so, when we came back, it was gone. I was angry. That morning, Flower Power spend a lot of time in the greenhouse to plant flowers. When we got back to our bed, we didn’t feel like working, so we just searched for wire worms. Then we fed the worms to the chicken. Even though it was raining, it was still a nice day. I like going to UBC Farm! |

On April 5 th, 2006, our class went to the UBC Farm. When we arrived at the greenhouse, we talked about what we did last time, and what we’re going to do. Flower Power did a lot of outdoor planting. We planted carrots, radishes, nelson carrots and stuff like that. We watered the plants. There were sprouts that came up that we planted last, last time. I was so surprised!!! Fiona got water all over me when we were putting water in the watering can. I was mad at her. At the end of the day, our group went to the forest to investigate. I liked it because it was cool and quiet. Flower Power went back to the greenhouse and we went back to school. I had a lot of fun in the U.B.C. Farm. |

On April 19 th, 2006, division 7 went to UBC Farm. We got our tools and went to our bed. There are sprouts everywhere. Broad beans had grown and also radishes had grown. Unfortunetly, there weren’t many worms in the potato traps. We fed them to the chickens anyway. Flower Power spent a lot of time transplanting. To my surprise, some seeds had grown but some didn’t have their true leaves. So, some of them, we just hardened them. We needed a lot of compost when we were transplanting. Another wonderful farm day ended. |

Once again, my class went to UBC Farm. One of the one of the farm friends talked about nutrition. Then we read our day plan and started our work. That day, we only had 40 minutes to work because we’re actually going to eat our plants! We, Flower Power harvested just a little. Most of them were radishes. Everybody else harvested something and we washed it and made it into a salad. 60 or 50 people or more ate that salad. Wow! We also drank a tea that was sweet. It was nice but I didn’t really like it a lot. We thought we all had a really good snack. Another UBC Farm day had passed. I can’t wait for the next, next Wednesday, our last day for UBC Farm! |

Have you ever planted a vegetable and the next thing when you come back its almost as tall as you? Well I have. It was a huge surprise for our hole group even B.! Who is B. you might ask? B. is our farm leader. Everything is my favorite thing in the farm when I do it with B.. Some of my favorite thing to do is planting beans catching wier worms, get compost and digging up the meteor. I would miss the farm, B., planting beans, catching wire worms, and getting compost and most of all trying to dig up the meteor from the ground, weed have to dig 5 times as hard as we did the last weeks. And when I’m done doing all that hard work I can sit down and relax. |
